FACTS ABOUT INTEGRAL CALCULUS

  • The process of finding integrals is called integration.


  • The  equivalent word  of integration is Summation.


  • Newton and Leibniz formulated the principles of Integration.

  • The notation for the indefinite integral was introduced by Leibniz.

  • Leibniz adapted the integral symbol  "∫" from the letter "long s" in latin.

    (The long S stands for summa- meaning - " sum" or "total")


  • The notation for the definite integral with limits above and below the integral sign was introduced by Fourier.

 

  • When limits are specified,

 

 the integral is called a definite integral.


  • When the limits are omitted, as in

the integral is called an indefinite integral,
